A Frugal Sight

January 11th, 2008 at 03:46 am

I was doing dishes this evening when I looked over and saw my cookbooks. This reflects pretty well how frugal I am. The black binder is my compilation of recipes, the Betty Crocker cookbook along with Jessica Seinfeld's and my favorite Tighwad Gazette were all gifts. MIL gave me her old Better Homes and Garden (I love it's age!). I bought Make-a-Mix...I love them all!

Ironically, you'll notice in the picture my paper towel holder with the towels cut in half and the storage bags that I'll be washing and reusing.

Two years ago, I would have fell out of my chair laughing at someone who took the time to make a post like this. I couldn't be more proud today.

    I think it's great.

PLUS -- Way to go cutting those CC debts down!

Good for you, I cut my paper towels in half too!

DB-- it is funny, although my cookbooks are in the cabinet, I too have the black binder full of the internet printed recipes I love. I also inherited all of my MIL's cookbooks when she passed away. Most of them are church cookbooks full of recipes from the "older church ladies" that I grew up with (hubby and I are from the same hometown). I wouldn't trade those books for the world!!

Yup, I recognize the sight. Reminds me of my own kitchen. We realized we had changed our habits drastically when we needed giant glass containers for flour, sugar and cornmeal to keep the flour bugs out.

Gotta love it! I have the Tightwad Gazette book, and use lots of the recipes. I also have a couple of the other books shown. My three-ring binder is there, too, but it is white. I think you have more control of saving in the food category than in most other areas, when you have "fixed" expenses.

I have a big blue binder! It holds mostly Weight Watcher recipes that I've gotten off the internet and a few recipes from my mom.

Yum, we had pizza & garlic bread tonight from the TGz's pizza dough recipe! For a family of four hungry adults, triple the recipe. Made 2 round pizzas and a big square pan of garlic bread.
